Pre-Arrival – Make sure to receive an offer letter prior to the start date. Requesting a longer-term (> 1 year) visa document may more easily facilitate travel and U.S. entry visa renewal.

Topics include career development, funding, benefits, mentoring/advising, policies, and procedures, campus resources, early steps for new postdocs, and more.
Connect – More than 1,200 MIT-Postdocs actively interact on the MIT-Postdoc slack channel. This is our main communication channel where you get informed about upcoming events, reach the PDA, and connect with other postdocs (sports, housing, etc.).
New Postdocs are automatically added to the email listserv, which keeps you updated on postdoc issues via the PDA monthly newsletter, alerts you to funding opportunities, and informs you of social events, seminars, and workshops.
Housing – This website helps you explore MIT’s on-campus and off-campus housing options. To assist new MIT Postdocs moving into Boston or MIT Postdocs looking to move, the MIT PDA has compiled some resources and tips to find housing. The document covers issues relating to off-campus, on-campus, and temporary housing: Postdoc Housing Resources Document (Updated March 2023). If you have any questions, comments, or feedback regarding the Housing Resources Document, contact pda-orientation@mit.edu.
MIT Spouses & Partners Connect – This is a dedicated network for the significant others of MIT students, postdocs, staff and faculty who have relocated to the Boston area.
Navigate on campus – To ensure you don’t get lost, you can search for the location of an office on the campus map, access the MIT tunnel map, or even download floor plans of a building (requires a web certificate).
Core Facilities and Service Centers are centralized shared research resources that provide access to instruments, technologies, services, and in many cases expert consultation and training to researchers. Across the Institute, there are more than 50 core facilities.
